{"id":761,"date":"2011-08-17T10:49:03","date_gmt":"2011-08-17T10:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beta.sellcell.com\/blog\/?p=761"},"modified":"2019-04-12T11:07:58","modified_gmt":"2019-04-12T11:07:58","slug":"nokia-tries-something-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/nokia-tries-something-new\/","title":{"rendered":"Nokia Tries Something New"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Nokia-phone.gif\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-762\" title=\"Nokia phone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Nokia-phone.gif\" alt width=\"180\" height=\"120\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-762 lazyload\" title=\"Nokia phone\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20180%20120%22%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" alt width=\"180\" height=\"120\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Nokia-phone.gif\"><\/a>Ever since SmartPhones started taking up more of our attention and time \u2013 and wallet \u2013 Nokia has been struggling in the US Market.&nbsp; Key rivals include Apple, RIM, Motorola Mobility, and Samsung.&nbsp; To put themselves in a better place to compete, Nokia teamed up with Microsoft and will be producing Windows Phone 7 smartphones.&nbsp; But we already knew this.&nbsp; Now we are hearing that Nokia is planning to stop selling feature phones and Symbian altogether.<\/p>\n<p>When the original announcement came regarding Nokia and Microsoft, the word was that the company would continue to produce the basic old cell phones so many people still love; after all, before the advent of the smartphone, Nokia was the favorite handset.&nbsp; Nokia said that while Maemo was going away, Symbian would still be supported.&nbsp; But apparently that is no longer the case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we launch Windows Phones we will essentially be out of the Symbian business, the S40 business, etc.,&#8221; Nokia\u2019s Chris Weber told All Things D.&nbsp; &#8220;It will be Windows Phone and the accessories around that.&nbsp; The reality is if we are not successful with Windows Phone, it doesn&#8217;t matter what we do (elsewhere).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Weber also told ATD that Nokia will be selling their handsets exclusively through carriers, so no more unsubsidized, unlocked cell phones.<\/p>\n<p>The first handset set to use the Windows Phone 7 OS is code named Sea Ray and is scheduled to be launched in the next few months.&nbsp; A new Symbian handset, the Nokia 500 has also just recently been introduced.&nbsp; The N9, a MeeGo-based handset, will not be made available in the US.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ever since SmartPhones started taking up more of our attention and time \u2013 and wallet \u2013 Nokia has been struggling in the US Market.
