Thankfully, help is at hand in the form of cloud-based storage systems which ensure your digital possessions are secure should you misplace your smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>However, many of us still avoid backing up &#8211; because it sounds complicated, or time-consuming, or boring. Some of the main ones are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/\">Dropbox<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/drive\/\">Google Drive<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.box.com\/en_GB\/\">Box<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/microsoft-365\/onedrive\/online-cloud-storage\">OneDrive<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icloud.com\/\">iCloud<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most offer free storage, but only up to a certain point. Once you reach a data ceiling (typically 10GB or 15GB), you\u2019ll have to pay if you want more space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top tip<\/strong>: remember that a cloud system might already be linked to your phone. This will offer the easiest and most direct way to protect and preserve your data.<\/p>\n<p>OK &#8211; once you\u2019ve settled on a cloud service, it\u2019s time to back-up. Let\u2019s look at how to do it for Android, Apple and Microsoft phones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/office.jpg\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/office.jpg\" alt=\"office\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7384 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20500%20332%22%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" alt=\"office\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/office.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>For Android<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Uploading your information to Google Cloud couldn\u2019t be simpler on an Android device.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Head to \u2018Settings\u2019 and select \u2018back-up &amp; Reset\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Log-in to your Google account<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s not already ticked, select \u2018Automatic Restore\u2019 &#8211; this will remember your data and preferences when reinstating any app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For iPhone and iPad<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s iCloud is also one of the more fiddly clouds to deal with.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start at \u2018Settings\u2019 &#8211; selecting \u2018iCloud\u2019, then \u2018Storage and back-up\u2019<\/li>\n<li>On this screen, turn on the switch for \u2018iCloud back-up\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Next, go back one screen. Here, there are toggle options to turn on or off the data you want backed up from your Apple apps.<\/li>\n<li>To save data from any other apps, return to the \u2018Storage and back-up\u2019 page and select \u2018Manage Storage\u2019. Your device will be listed at the top of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Next, select \u2018Show All Apps\u2019. This will list all of your treasured apps, so you can choose the data you wish to save.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Top tip<\/strong>: When you\u2019re deselecting an app, it may offer you the opportunity to \u2018Turn Off and Delete\u2019. That may sound dramatic, but it\u2019s fine to proceed &#8211; this is only referring to deleting the pre-existing back-up, and the app and its existing data will not be harmed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve sorted that &#8211; plug your device in, connect to the WiFi and leave your phone locked while you go and make a much deserved cup of coffee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For Windows Phone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Really simple.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Navigate to Settings from your App List.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u2018Back-up\u2019. To back-up manually, select \u2018Apps + Settings\u2019, then turn on \u2018Settings back-up\u2019 and choose \u2018Back-up now\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Top tip<\/strong>: If you want to protect your app data as well as your phone data &#8211; crucial particularly for work documents and those priceless email threads &#8211; make sure to turn on \u2018App back-up\u2019 once you\u2019ve selected \u2018Settings back-up\u2019. That\u2019ll do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A matter of minutes, and that\u2019s all your data safe in the cloud, ready for when you need it and updating automatically.
