{"id":3988,"date":"2012-01-18T15:52:07","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T15:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beta.sellcell.com\/blog\/?p=2434"},"modified":"2019-04-12T11:07:44","modified_gmt":"2019-04-12T11:07:44","slug":"cell-phone-driving-ban-considered-by-hamilton-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/cell-phone-driving-ban-considered-by-hamilton-city-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Cell Phone Driving Ban Considered by Hamilton City Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Drive.jpg\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2435\" title=\"Drive\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Drive.jpg\" alt width=\"180\" height=\"120\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2435 lazyload\" title=\"Drive\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20180%20120%22%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" alt width=\"180\" height=\"120\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Drive.jpg\"><\/a>Six cities in Montana already ban drivers from talking or texting while operating a motor vehicle, and now, in the wake of the call for a nationwide ban on cell phone use while driving by the National Transportation Safety Board, Hamilton City Council is set to begin discussions as to whether it wishes to become the seventh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb10\">\n<\/p><p>Public discussions on the possibility of a cell phone ban on drivers within the city limits will be held the Council\u2019s Committee of the Whole, with the Committee set to meet next Tuesday, the 24th of January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb10\">\n<\/p><p>City councilman Al Mitchell raised the issue a couple of years ago, after having alarming encounters with motorists who were concentrating more on their new or old cell phones than they were their vehicles.  \u201cI\u2019ve just had some close calls and it\u2019s very frustrating,\u201d Mitchell notes, adding that at the time the council shot down the notion of any such bans.  \u201cI brought it up and I was soundly defeated.\u201d Now that a number of cities in Montana have enacted such ordinances in their limits and NTSB Chairman Deborah AP Hersman has sounded what is effectively a national call to arms, Mitchell believes \u201cIt\u2019s time to bring it up again.  We\u2019ve had enquiries from citizens to bring it back on the agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb10\">\n<\/p><p>The first city in Montana to ban talking while driving was Billings, with Butte, Helena
