including 120Hz display, always-on display, faster A15 processor, and more storage, the much-anticipated iPhone 13 is shaping up to be an impressive upgrade over last year&#8217;s lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/iphone-13-44-percent-of-iphone-users-intend-to-upgrade\/\">recent SellCell survey<\/a>, a whopping 44% of current iPhone users revealed they intend to upgrade to a next-gen iPhone model after it is released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a potential launch around the corner, we ran a follow-up purchase intent survey to find out what percentage of Android users would consider switching to the iPhone 13, the reasons why they would or wouldn&#8217;t make the switch, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: The survey included more than 5000 Android users, aged 18 years or older, based in the US.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>18.3% of Android users would consider switching to iPhone 13 after it is released, down 14.8% compared to a similar purchase intent survey from a year ago.<\/li><li>The largest 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max is the most popular pick among potential Android-to-iPhone switchers at 39.8%, followed by the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 13 model (36.1%), the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro (19.5%), and the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 Mini (4.6%).<\/li><li>&#8216;Longer software support&#8217; (51.4%), &#8216;Apple ecosystem integration&#8217; (23.8%), &#8216;Better privacy protection&#8217; (11.4%), and &#8216;Better prices&#8217; (5.2%) were among the top reasons why Android users would consider moving to iPhone 13.<\/li><li>&#8216;Lack of fingerprint scanner on iPhones&#8217; (31.9%), &#8216;limited customizability in iOS&#8217; (16.7%), \u2018restrictions on sideloading apps in iOS&#8217; (12.8%),&nbsp; &#8216;Android phones have better hardware than iPhones&#8217; (12.1%), and &#8216;intrusive iCloud photo scanning&#8217; (10.4%) were among the biggest deal-breakers, according to Android users not interested in iPhone 13.<\/li><li>When it comes to Apple&#8217;s other upcoming releases, 14.7% of potential iPhone switchers are looking forward to buying the Apple Watch Series 7, while only a mere 6.2% are interested in the AirPods 3.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">15% decline in purchase intent for newer iPhones from 2020<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We asked respondents with an Android phone whether they would consider buying the upcoming iPhone 13 after it is released and found out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/zblksYziRZoE3i2V1eykJmQLP40UAswRewB-6GS4soHhEGONRa-ofRCaMM5jVHDKo_z4yzsAOcJvqLzIQCTqUdLeQH_qWpyF_t9b0fkjHE2iOZt5nT4dzaqehmoI7fslzx0tq_A=s0\" alt=\"As an existing Android User would you consider buying iPhone 13?\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" alt=\"As an existing Android User would you consider buying iPhone 13?\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/zblksYziRZoE3i2V1eykJmQLP40UAswRewB-6GS4soHhEGONRa-ofRCaMM5jVHDKo_z4yzsAOcJvqLzIQCTqUdLeQH_qWpyF_t9b0fkjHE2iOZt5nT4dzaqehmoI7fslzx0tq_A=s0\" class=\" lazyload\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Less than two-in-10 Android users (18.3%) are willing to switch to an iPhone 13 model when they next upgrade.<\/li><li>The new figure marks a 14.8% drop from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/survey-3-in-10-android-users-would-consider-upgrading-to-iphone-12\/\">similar survey last year<\/a> that found the purchase intent for new iPhones (iPhone 12 at the time) among Android users to be 33.1%.<\/li><li>Meanwhile, a majority (81.7%) of Android users revealed they are not interested in the upcoming iPhone range.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the iPhone 12 series, the incoming iPhone 13 lineup will likely consist of four variants &#8212; 5.4-inch iPhone 13 Mini, 6.1-inch iPhone 13, 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max, despite rumors early on that Apple could ditch the &#8216;Mini&#8217; model due to poor sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a follow-up question, we asked the potential buyers (respondents who answered &#8216;yes&#8217; and &#8216;Apple ecosystem&#8217; as top reasons for considering iPhone 13<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We further asked the potential switchers to pick the main reason why they would replace their current Android phone with an iPhone 13, and the responses &#8211; &#8211; 0.9%<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Missing fingerprint reader &amp; iCloud photo scanning are among the top reasons why Android users won&#8217;t switch to iPhone 13<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When the remaining Android users (respondents who said &#8216;no&#8217; 3.9%<\/li><li>\u2018Prefer Google Assistant over Siri\u2019 &#8211; 2.6%<\/li><li>\u2018Lack of split-screen multitasking &#8211; 2.3%<\/li><li>\u2018No support for multiple user profiles\u2019 &#8211; 1.5%<\/li><li>\u2018No foldable options like Galaxy Z Fold3\u2019 &#8211; 0.8%<\/li><li>\u2018Missing app lock feature\u2019 &#8211; 0.5%<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly one-third (31.9%) cited &#8216;<em>lack of fingerprint scanner<\/em>&#8216; as the primary reason for not switching to iPhone 13. Fingerprint scanners, a staple feature of most Android devices, are still nowhere to be found in recent iPhones, and while Apple&#8217;s alternative Face ID is just as quick and secure, it has proven to be less effective while wearing face masks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, for about two-in-10 (16.7%) Android loyalists, the biggest concern is that &#8216;<em>iOS offers very little customizability.&#8217; <\/em>With the introduction of widgets and custom app icons in iOS 14, iPhones sure have come a long way in this regard but still lack several customization options &#8211; including support for interactive widgets and launchers &#8211; to reach parity with their Android counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>iOS&#8217;s lack of support for sideloading apps<\/em> is the deal-breaker for about 13% of Android users who don&#8217;t intend to switch to iPhone 13. Unlike Android, iOS devices, unless jailbroken, do not allow users to install apps downloaded from the web or third-party marketplaces due to security concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 12.1% think <em>Android phones have better overall hardware (camera, specs, design)<\/em> than their iPhone counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, more than one-in-10 (10.4%) users noted the upcoming &#8216;<em>intrusive iCloud photo scanning<\/em>&#8216; feature as the main reason for not making the jump. To curb the spread of child abuse images, Apple is set to introduce a new scanning feature that will check whether the hashes of pictures you upload to iCloud match with a database of known child sexual abuse material or CSAM hashes. This iOS 15 feature, however, has received more criticism than praise and has many privacy experts and users worried about possible privacy implications and the likelihood of it being exploited for other types of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.5% cited &#8216;<em>iPhones are expensive<\/em>&#8216; as the reason for not considering the iPhone 13, while another about 4% said they would prefer switching to an older iPhone model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whereas 2.6% would not switch because they <em>prefer Google Assistant over Apple&#8217;s Siri<\/em>, slightly smaller shares of 2.3% and 1.5% are put off by iOS&#8217;s lack of support for split-screen multitasking and multiple user profiles, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The least popular reasons for not making the switch are &#8216;no foldable iPhone options&#8217; (0.8%) and &#8216;missing app lock feature&#8217; (0.5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interests in other upcoming Apple releases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as the iPhone 13 range, Apple could launch at least two other products, including a new smartwatch and a new AirPods, at the September event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upcoming smartwatch &#8212; presumably called the Apple Watch Series 7 &#8212; could feature a new flat-edge design, a bigger battery, and an additional optical sensor to monitor blood glucose levels, among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the AirPods 3 is rumored to feature an AirPods Pro-like design, improved battery life, active noise cancellation, and spatial audio support, among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the new Apple Watch Series 7 and AirPods 3 expected to go official alongside the iPhone 13, we asked the same set of potential Android-to-iPhone switchers (respondents who are considering moving to iPhone 13) whether they would be interested in buying any of them if the rumors are true, and we found out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the survey, 18.3% of Android users would consider switching to the upcoming iPhone 13 after it is released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new data indicates an almost 15% decline in purchase intent for newer iPhones among Android users compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sellcell.com\/blog\/survey-3-in-10-android-users-would-consider-upgrading-to-iphone-12\/\">last year&#8217;s survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, fewer Android users are iPhone 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent controversies around potential privacy and misuse concerns associated with iCloud picture scanning may have been the factor most responsible for the decline in purchase intention, as other significant factors above have barely changed or haven&#8217;t changed at all since the last survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SURVEY METHODOLOGY:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The report is based on an online survey &#8211; conducted between Aug 13-30, 2021 &#8211; involving more than 5000 Android users, aged 18 years or older, based in the United States.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The responses to the survey were collected without storing any personally identifiable information of the involved respondents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The motive of the survey was to find out what percentage of Android users would consider switching to the upcoming iPhone 13, the reasons why they would or wouldn&#8217;t make the switch, and
